Daniel Levitin is an award-winning scientist, musician, writer, and record producer. As a cognitive neuroscientist specializing in music perception and cognition, he is attributed with fundamentally changing the way scientists think about auditory memory. Dr. Levitin is the author of the No. 1 bestsellers This Is Your Brain on Music, The World in Six Songs, and The Organized Mind, and his TED talks have been viewed more than 8 million times. His writing has appeared in Grammy, Billboard, scientific journals, and audio magazines worldwide. Before becoming a neuroscientist, Dr. Levitin worked as a session musician, sound engineer, and record producer, working with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Santana, The Grateful Dead, and Blue Oyster Cult. He also worked as a standup comedian and a joke writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Dr. Levitin received a BA in cognitive psychology and cognitive science from Stanford University and a PhD in psychology from the University of Oregon.
