Daniel Levitin

Daniel Levitin is an award-winning scientist, musician, writer, and record producer. As a cognitive neuroscientist specializing in music perception and cognition, he is attributed with fundamentally changing the way scientists think about auditory memory. Dr. Levitin is the author of the No. 1 bestsellers This Is Your Brain on Music, The World in Six Songs, and The Organized Mind, and his TED talks have been viewed more than 18 million times. His writing has appeared in Grammy, Billboard, scientific journals, and audio magazines worldwide. Before becoming a neuroscientist, Dr. Levitin worked as a session musician, sound engineer, and record producer, working with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Santana, The Grateful Dead, and Blue Oyster Cult. He also worked as a standup comedian and a joke writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Dr. Levitin received a BA in cognitive psychology and cognitive science from Stanford University and a PhD in psychology from the University of Oregon.
