Howard Marks, CFA

Howard Marks, CFA, is co-chairman of Oaktree Capital Management. He is responsible for ensuring adherence to the firm’s core investment philosophy, communicating with clients concerning products and strategies, and contributing to decisions on investments and corporate direction. Previously, Mr. Marks led the groups at the TCW Group responsible for investments in distressed debt, high-yield bonds, and convertible securities and served as chief investment officer for domestic fixed income. He has served as vice president, senior portfolio manager, equity research analyst, and director of research at Citicorp Investment Management. Mr. Marks is a trustee and chairman of the investment committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and serves on the investment committee of the Royal Drawing School, the Shanghai International Financial Advisory Council, and the advisory board of Duke Kunshan University. He is an emeritus trustee of the University of Pennsylvania and professor of practice at King’s Business School. Mr. Marks earned a BSEc degree (cum laude) with a major in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in accounting and marketing from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he received the George Hay Brown Prize.
